Whether its dessert craving or snack time, air fryer cookies are great for any time and for all ages.

Though you can use any cookie dough recipe to air fry, I developed these air fryer almond flour cookies for absolute deliciousness.

Is it better to bake or air fry cookies?

Baking cookies in an oven is traditional and a bit more time-consuming. The texture of cookies includes crispy edges and a soft, chewy inside. Baking spreads the heat evenly but takes longer.

On the other hand air fryer uses hot air that circulates rapidly around the food, creating a crispy exterior similar to deep frying but with much less oil. Air fried cookies tend to be a bit crispier overall and may cooks faster than traditional baking.

I personally love the convinience of air fryer and cook various sweet and savory air fryer recipes.

Sweet potato cubes, zucchini fries, and even crispy mushrooms are favorites.

I also cook veggies like Brussels sprouts, green beans, carrots in it for lunch or dinner sides.

My family adores the vegan apple fritters and apple dumplings I make in it.

I frequently make tempeh bacon as breakfast and spring rolls as snacks in my air fryer.

Ingredients notes

Almond flour – Any almond flour works great here. Its gluten free and grain free thereby making these vegan almond flour cookies suitable for most diets.

Flaxseed meal – Its packed with fiber and is a great egg substitute. Flaxseed meal is also a great source of omeag-3 fatty acids.

Maple syrup – I like the flavor and texture of maple syrup. When added to any recipe as sweetener maple syrup brings out a wonderful taste and texture.

Hempseeds – Its one of the superfood and adds protein and fiber to these air fried cookies.

Chocolate chips – Many dairy free and vegan chocolate chips are now available. I used vegan semi sweet chocolate chips in this air fryer cookie recipe. You may chose any that suits your taste.

How to make

Firstly, I combined almond flour, hempseeds, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl.

Secondly, I added maple syrup, soaked flaxseed meal, vanilla extract to it and whipped it into a dough like batter.

wet ingredients folded into the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl.

Next, I folded in chocolate chips and mixed once or twice again.

chocolate chips folded into the batter and whipped into a final batter.

Thereafter, I placed an exact sized parchment paper in the air fryer basket. Then, with the help of a medium sized cookie scoop, I placed round dough balls with little gaps in between each of them. After that, I roughly pressed each of them with the back of a spoon and shaped them round.

shaped batter ready to be baked.

Afterwards, I attached the basket to the main air fryer and let them cook for 11 minutes at 300 degree.

Lastly, I turned it off and separated the basket and let the cookies cool down completely before removing.

Again, I air fried the rest of the batter in the second batch.

Storage tips

These air fryer chocolate chip cookies are the best when served as soon as they cool down. However, these can be saved for later use.

Refrigerator – once they are completely cooled at room temperature, refrigerate them in an air tight container in a single layer for 3-4 days. Enjoy them cold or oven toast for 1 minute and cool.

Freeze – Once they are completely cooled at room temperature, place them in a single layer in a Ziploc bag and freeze for about 2 months. Oven toast for 2-3 minutes, cool and enjoy.

Expert tips

  • Do not overmix the cookie dough once the chocolate chips are folded in.
  • It is imporant to note that this recipe has to be made in two batches. Let the first batch cool down and firm up then gently scoop them with a flat spatula and place them on the cooling rack. Then start with the second batch.
  • When mixing the dry ingredients, make sure to remove the lumps from almond flour. You may rub the flour wiht your hands so that the baking powder and almond flour blends well.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I use aluminum foil in air fryer?

Yes, but you will have to grease it really well by putting extra oil. I tested this recipe with parchment paper and it works absolutely well. Parchment paper also helps to make these cookies in air fryer oil free and healthy.

Do I need to preheat?

No preheating is required for this recipe.

Should I use cookie sheet?

Put the parchment paper directly in the basket to bake the cookies in the air fryer. Make sure the parchment paper is cut in the exact shape of the basket and no-extra is hanging from any corner or else the parchment paper might start to burn.

Is it healthier to oven bake or air fry?

Air fryer is healthy substitute for deep frying foods. Whereas, oven baking is a traditional method. Overall, both uses similar heating techniques so the food retains their desired nutrient profile irrespective of the appliance you chose.
