The smell of Pizza makes me hungry!! The sight of spaghetti is so delicious!! The molten Lava Chocolate Cake is mouthwatering!! The aroma of garlic fries is so tempting!!

OH! I am feeling so deprived. Wish I could eat them and yet stay slim and trim! These are common thoughts that cross everyone’s minds. Such thoughts and feeling of deprivation makes many of us lose motivation to follow a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet.

I will share tricks that I follow to maintain a healthy weight and still continue eating my favorite food

I never fill myself with my favorite food; instead my intentions are to satisfy my cravings and enjoy every bite of it. So I eat a bowl of salad with lots of mixed greens so that I am already half full when I indulge in my favorite food.

I never go to a restaurant on an empty stomach. I always snack on healthy stuffs. I snack on stuffs like carrot and hummus, cucumbers, fruits and so on. This helps me to make better choices in the menu and avoid over indulging at the restaurant.

In the menu in most of the restaurants they include entrées that are 500 calories or below. I try to choose my entrée from there. I always make sure that I order steamed veggies or fresh tofu or grilled chicken. This way I reduce calorie intake and enjoy the food at the same time.

I never let my body go to a starvation mode and so I eat at regular intervals. This way I crave less for junk food.

When eating out I mostly make choices of high protein food so that I indulge less in the high calorie and fried food. High protein foods are more satisfying and keep stomach full for longer time.

I have a sweet tooth and I love chocolates. So I make chocolates and other sweet snacks at home and indulge in them instead of eating high calorie loaded desserts outside.

I indulge in my favorite food once or twice a month and always account for what I eat. (I use myfitnesspal to account my calorie intake).

I drink ice water instead of any sweet beverage. In case of chips and salsa, I try to eat more salsa as compared to chips. This way I save on my calorie intake of fried food.

I always dress up well when I eat out so that I am conscious of how I am looking. As a consequence I am aware of what and how much I eat.

I exercise regularly and make sure I burn the calories that I eat.

Health Tip of the week

“Make sure to indulge in your favorite food, but cautiously and calculatedly”
