I never really considered myself a runner. I never thought of participating in any runs though I exercise every day and jog for an hour but within my boundaries. I always gave my little one priority and so never participated in any marathons in anticipation that I will be away from my daughter for those couple of hours. (I know it’s silly of me to think like that but I guess most of the first time moms think similar). 🙂 . But this time it was different. It was my blog’s anniversary and I kept debating with myself whether to cook some healthy dessert or do some fitness activity.
My husband was scrolling over the internet and came across this 5k run for a good cause “All in for Autism” in Bellevue, WA (my neighborhood). While discussing about the run I suddenly thought to give this 5k run a try and celebrate one year of kiipfit.com by focusing on fitness rather than cooking dessert and what can be better than a charity race.
I must admit that I am blessed with very supportive friends who not only encouraged me to participate in the run but also took part with me as a kiipfit.com team. 🙂
I was slightly nervous but when I reached the venue I was overjoyed with the ambience. Every participant was motivated and eager to run for the cause. The weather was absolutely favorable and cheerful. There were some stalls located for refreshments and every one was so helpful. Happiness was just flowing all over. I saw so many people focusing on fitness which in turn made me very happy and encouraged me to achieve my goal. I knew I had made the perfect decision of celebrating the anniversary of my blog with a charity race.
I was super excited that I completed the run, reached the finished line in my estimated time and all my friends also made it with me. Once again we flocked together and kept on chatting about the experience of this run.
From this experience I learnt that one should not hesitate to participate in any event for the first time. There is no need to be nervous, just some focus is required for the race. Keep the pace consistent and don’t hesitate to walk when desired. Enjoy the run rather than making it a task. 🙂
I am sharing some of my friends’ comments on this experience.
Maninder Kaur “I love running outdoor and always wanted to do a run for a cause. This Bellevue run for Autism was a fun run as I had company of my friends and motivation to finish my race. It was a good experience of running, building on my stamina. I look forward to many more such runs with my friends and also to support a good cause”.
Taruna Vazirani “Running is a fun sport to get into with friends and family, running for a cause is even more fun. This race was very inspiring as you see kids and elders walking/running to support a noble cause”.
There is a saying in Nike by Bill Bowerman ‘If you have a body you are an athlete’.
Overall, I feel that a charity race is a great way to raise funds and encourages us to stay focused on fitness programs.
I am walking next week for a great cause ‘Heart Walk’ in Portland (OR). Feel free to join my team in the below link and help me raise the fund for this noble cause. 🙂
